Antique Persian Rug - Silk Kashan
An antique pre-1900, Persian Silk Kashan, this rug was bought for my friend’s grandfather by Howard Hughes while they were overseas working at TWA. Hughes was apparently quite generous and also bought the engagement ring that my friend’s wife wears today, passed down from his grandmother
So over the years this rug, while still absolutely beautiful, has had some tough times, and has fallen in quality of condition The dark brown strap you see was added so that it could be used as a tapestry for the last few decades. If you were inclined to use this as a tapestry that would work just fine. It could also work in a room with very low (no) traffic as a display piece
We aren’t quite sure what will become of this rug, but we are hoping someone can appreciate its history and design. Despite not being in the best shape, it has still retained its beauty.
Because it is silk, it’s as if the colors change exponentially each time I move around it, whether the sun moves or not. It’s a million rugs in one
